How to paint or do something to my laminated bathroom vanity

Question

I need to do something with my bathroom vanity and counter. They are an awful pinkish laminated old style 1990 1 oval sink vanity. But I don't have the money to replace it. The length is about 66'. They want about $1000.00 to replace.

As for the vanity, if is it true laminated, sometimes you can use a heat gun and the laminate separates from the wood doors and drawer fronts. Whether you remove this or not, you need to sand with a rough sandpaper to loosen any unwanted plastic or paint, then sand again with a higher grit to get a smoother finish. I agree with the zinsser primers, but if you buy a 'Triple Coat' with peel stop (about 20.00 a quart), you will have much better results. Then choose a good quality paint in the color you want. (I have painted my personal vanities with exterior semi gloss). When painting, add a product call flowtrol, that will provide a more 'lacquer' type finish and hide brush strokes. As for the countertop, not many suggestions. Depending on size, you can buy custom countertops from the Depots for about 200.00.

Hi! I am literally doing the same thing on my mom's bathroom vanity, circa 1970. Fake oak and laminate doors and beige formica top. My plan is to paint the vanity base using Kilz Cover-All- it leaves a nice base coat and covers up imperfections. Then two coats of Benjamin Moore Snowfall White in Semi-gloss. Then we are going to add some glass knobs for a bit of bling. For the vanity top, Rustoleum makes a product specifically designed for this called Countertop Restoration. We used it in my daughters kitchen and it made the counters look like concrete. You can find both of those products at your local Lowes or Home Depot. Good luck!

not only it's really beautiful...I did a faux marble on my bathroom vanity and you could not tell the difference...first make sure to sand it all with a course grit sandpaper...use any primer (I used latex Kilz) then paint with the color you want...to get any faux effect (like marble or granite) use a toothbrush splatter with different colors that are in the same group as your base color maybe 3 or 4 OR us a feather and use any faux marble technique (these are all over youtube)...I bought testers (at 99 cents each) for those colors...now use a fine grit sand paper and gently sand it so that you have a smooth surface to paint over and lastly use an lacquer or clear varnish over the top...I used 3 coats to make sure it was water resistant...it looked so good and I was very very proud of it...and it helped me sell my home because it was beautiful...I also painted the linoleum in front of my front door because I couldn't afford to replace it...not much work and HIGH reward
