Penny on May 25, 2016i have done 2 layers with chalk paint...i let the first coat dry real well, and waited to distress until i did the second color....it worked really well. to distress, i sanded lightly so the first coat showed through in most spots, and heavier in other areas...good luck...let us know how you do...Helpful Reply

Teri Broberg on May 26, 2016It depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to distress all the way to the wood, then sand both layers until the wood shows. If you only want to show your layers of paint, you can apply your base coat and after it dries, go ahead and wax in the areas you will be distressing later. After you paint your second coat in another color, you can use a wet cloth to wipe back to your waxed areas. The wax will keep you from distressing through your base coat. And using a wet rag rather than sandpaper will also insure that you don't go through the wax. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply
