Tips for Staining a concrete floor with multiple colors?

Applying a finish on an unfinished concrete floor, approximately 700 square feet. I would like to use transparent stain and get the look when finished of a fall leaf; beige or a tan with green and red occasion highlights. Is there anything that needs to be done to the felt relief cracks to get the color to absorb and blend in as much as possible with the floor. I don't a high gloss shine with the final sealing, but do want a durable attractive finish.
