Why does my chalk paint chip off?

I thouroughly cleaned the coffee table before painting and waxing but the paint is chipping off!

Sometimes, the underlying finish can lead to whatever is on top chipping. What you can do is sand down the rough, chippy spots and shellac the cabinets. Let dry for a day and then paint with ASCP over it. This doesn't happen very often, but I have seen it before. Also, before you paint again, clean it really well with either TSP or Crud Cutter.
