Can you paint over dark paneling?

    Absolutely! But prime it first so that's you will get good coverage.

    You sure can! Make sure the paneling is clean. Prime with a good stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123 or BIN then paint with your color. If the paneling has grooves you can fill them with drywall patching compound. Let it dry overnight. Next day go over the patch with a damp sponge to smooth it out. Prime and paint.

    If you don't want the grooves to show ,there is a covering you can get to cover them. Look at any store that sells wallpaper. This goes on like wallpaper and makes the surface flat and smooth. you just paint over it . It is usually white ,so it will help with the dark paneling.

    Yes, prime first. May have to sand it to rough up surface a little if it is a smooth surface. Use a good quality paint. Did mine about 10 years ago, still looks good.

  • Prime the panel first with white primer which I recommend to prevent pealing.
