did you prime the ceiling first?

Patchy in color, gloss, or distribution of the texture? If the texture, you may want to either scrape the popcorn off or cover it with adhesive ceiling tile made to cover popcorn ceilings. They aren't the kind of ceiling tile they used to make. New tiles can simulate really beautiful styles, like tin and other premium ceilings.

Maybe another coat? Did you stir the paint really well?

Hopefully the store directed you to the correct roller for heavy texture surfaces. If not get a new one. But you probably just need another coat of paint. It likely didnt soak in evenly and/or you went over some areas more than Others. Hope this helps

I have had that happen to my walls and what I learned is that I didn't mix the paint good enough which is why it was streaky. You might first call the place you purchased your paint from and ask them in case there is something they can share first. Otherwise, I would stir the paint really good and give it a second coat.

Yes, probably one or more coats of paint will even it all out. Popcorn ceilings are famous for "absorbing" anything sprayed or applied to them.

If it looks patchy take a wide metal puddy spatul lightly scrape the ceiling & lightly sand the darker spots. Reprime your ceiling w/ Kilz. Sherrwin Williams carries a white paint ( can be tinted) that’s is great to use to cover water stains, I’ve used it to cover unevenness on my ceiling ( w/o water stains) it evens out nicely. It my be more steps then you want but it’s a fast quick less expensive effete than. Then removing the popcorn.

Did you roll it on or use a brush? I found that a thick napped roller gave better coverage on the popcorn.

Primer and a thick nap roller, 1/2" to 3/4".
