I live in my family home that is over 50 years old and I am going to redo my kitchen. The only thing I am stuck on is how to paint over a tiled floor. My father is well over the age that he can go down on his knees and we don't really want to retile so can someone help give some great ideas on how to paint my kitchen floor. Help! Thank you!

Painting tiled flooring is one option as far as changing the color. It is not a solution to extending the life of or halting any continuing deterioration. As there are clearly worn out and damaged areas (most likely due simply to age) just in this photo alone, for the cost of materials involved in painting, I would say it will be more worthwhile an investment to have the tiling replaced or covered with new flooring.

Measure the tiles. If they are 9" square do not do anything to them. They have asbestos in them. You can legally cover them with another flooring. EPA calls it "encapsulating". if they are not asbestos you can paint them as long as they are in good condition.

I would agree with both William and Flipturn here. The tile looks suspiciously like asbestos tile. Sheet vinyl is a very inexpensive option. I would recommend a perimeter glue vinyl flooring. It will make everything easier to clean and keep up while likely being less expensive or the same as all the paint supplies. AND you don't have to touch the potentially asbestos tile.
