How do you paint kitchen cabinets with chalk paint so that it lasts?

My kitchen cabinets need an update and I love the look of chalk paint with wax but I'm not sure if chalk paint would hold up in the kitchen area. Anyone have experience with doing this or suggestions on how to make it work?

Take a cabinet door to your local home improvement store and ask for their advice. They have the newest materials, ideas, and application products to do a professional job.

Donna: you may want to do a chalk paint (and distressing) technique... but wax will eventually wear off in a busy kitchen. I have finished some of my chalk furniture with polyurethane... for a more durable finish.
You'll want to make sure you seal them after you paint the cabinets. A lot of people will use a wax. I personally use a clear polyrcrylic. It comes in a gloss, satin, and matte finish and doesn't change the color. It protects the paint and allows you to wipe them down.
