How to paint over stained pine shiplap boards

Have you ever painted over pine ship lap boards that have already been stained? I am looking to update my room. I would like to paint the boards in white and the walls in Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore.. What are your suggestions so the paint doesn’t peel off, as I do not want to sand all the walls.

My son has recently painted his staircase which was shiplapped,he used Annie Sloan chalk paint straight onto the boards sorry can’t show you a picture but it’s fabulous. -

Use a primer to make sure the stain doesn't bleed through and then you can successfully paint over the boards. -

I would use Kilz as a base coat. I’ve done this before and it works very well. -

The absolute best product to use is bonding primer...it will adhere to anything and then accept the new paint flawlessly.
