Nice find! Is all of the other woodwork, like window and door moldings painted or is it all stained dark. Off-hand I'd say that you should do whatever makes you happy.
I would leave it alone. Natural wood is so lovely.
By woodwork I assume you mean the moldings along the floors. If It is a lot darker than the hardwood floors, you may need to paint them the color of the walls, or white if that would look better. The dark stained woodwork may take away from the hardwood floors.
Sure, it would look fine either dark or light. I guess the white trim would lighten the room up. The dark wood would look okay framing any color on the wall, too.
Do whatever you like best!
It is your house, choose what makes you happy
Clean them up with a good wood floor cleaner. I use BONA hardwood floor cleaner. Live with them for awhile & see if you get used to the dark wood!
Remember dark does not show scuffs and marks, light color or white will. If it bothers you to be dark, then paint it. You can always brush (paint lightly) with a lighter brown, beige color or whatever on the wood work to blend with a color in the flooring. Use turpentine or paint remover on a soft cloth to remove excess. Decorative rollers can be purchased at DIY or paint stores.
