Our dressers are 50 y/o solid maple. Can they be painted?

Scratched & want to lose the early American look. ? Prime & chalk paint or any suggestions with minimal or no sanding or stripping please.

    Lightly sand... use a good quality primer... then paint however you want

    Real wood can easily be painted. given the age and the scratched condition, you will want to scrub the dressers with a wood soap first.

    Many people prefer stained wood to painted wood and will tell you to sand and refinish to keep the real wood. Sanding is not difficult and there are many online tutorials.

    After a scrub, remove the hardware and see if the pieces still read early American style. Figure out what you don't like and change it. Many times, I dislike the hardware and once I change that, I am happy with the piece.
