Painting library paneling in my living room

Our fairly large living room is vaulted with a popcorn ceiling, a single skylight, full-length pained glass door going out to the covered patio and a tall window. Door and window are on either side of red brick fireplace. Walls are all library paneling, about a dark oak color. I wonder about painting the trim between the panels or vise versa. I've looked on-line for ideas but can't seem to find what it would look like. Afraid to start without knowing. HELP someone.

Most people paint everything one color, but contrasting color would work. This is all I could find.

Personally I would keep it all one color.

First be sure to put the primer of whcih ever pattern you wish with a primer like Kil's, and i like the trim between panels as well. Ever thought of using a chalk paint for the color. It is much more subdued but yet warm and relaxing.

I am with Ronald and Mary. I painted paneling in my first home, it look wonderful. You do need to use primer, or the paint will get scratched and the wood will again show through.

Please paint it all. It will be so gorgeous and inviting. Instead of sanding, use liquid sandpaper--so much easier than sanding. Use a liberal amount and follow directions carefully. Liquid sandpaper 'tacks up' the surface like sanding, but without all the work or mess. I have done this many times on paneling and just about every other wood surface. It works. Then use a bonding primer for best results or at least a high quality primer. Then paint with an eggshell finish for a soft sheen--much prettier than flat paint. Use a thicker nap roller to help get into the grooves and a paint brush for the areas that the roller won't reach.

Thank you everyone. That helps a lot. I've never done it and was so afraid of starting without some guidance.
