We moved in a home where the cabinets are not solid wood. It's almost like they have a paper finish over them. I want to paint them white. But I want it to be something that will stay and that is washable... I don't want grease stains... Anybody please help , I can't afford to replace them or have them refaced .......HELP PLEASE !!!

Hi. Paper cabinets sounds very unusual so maybe they are made of MDF which could have a rough paper feel if not prepped correctly. If they have a flat non-shiny finish you may be able to coat them easily with a high gloss latex paint? Prep is key to cabinets and if it's made of MDF you can't sand those too much or won't give u the smooth finish u want for wipe-ability. Another no prep idea is to use Annie Sloans chalk paint with a wax coating for a more custom look but if close to heat nota good idea for the wax will melt.

Many MDF or "particle board"cabinets actually have a very thin top layer of wood veneer. If your cabinets don't, you can very easily add it. Most of it now is ironed on and it takes a primer and paint very nicely. Be sure you adhere it well so it doesn't peel off. You can also use pre-pasted removable/paintable textured wall paper. I have MDF cabinets that had been crackle painted. The first one I tried to strip, the top "crackled" coat of paint came off but the second application of stripper also took off the veneer! The rest of the cabinets I just stripped the top crackled paint and primed the bottom coat of paint. Then I used the wallpaper textured to look like bead board - they look great and you have to touch them to know it isn't actually solid wood bead board! I painted them a light vanilla to match the predominate color in my counter tops. Really pleased with how they turned out......

Use chalk paint and wax over it, or Lowe's sells cabinet paint. I use it because I did not know about chalk paint at the time. The cabinet paint did ok but it definitely took more than one coat as it states. Chalk paint covers in one coat. Look up on internet.
