What wall treatment or paint colors for my small entry should I use?

The entry is 6.5' wide by 8' deep & walls are 9.5' high; stairs going up & stairs going down. Don't want it looking too dark & cave-like!

The trim is wide walnut stained wood. Other than an aversion to purple, I'm not too fussy about colors. (Mostly). The entry is blocked off with a stained pine door going into the main part of the house.

I would use a light, neutral paint color with bright trim, like ivory

It really just depends on your personal style, how did you style the rest of the home, what colors were used and such. So you can take the color of the closest room and go up a hue or two so that it is still in the same family. On the other hand if you want a fun wow entrance give it it's own character and start with a favorite color of yours that you have only used in accessories around the house. But don't just stop at the walls add some funky art work a coll shaped mirror stuff like that so that the other rooms can be neutral but the accessories now pop because they share the color of the entrance.

Lighting will play a big part when choosing for a small entry.I would browse colors charts, look and them in your own home. What others will suggest may not work.
