Are you sure it is wallpaper? could it be the vinyl original?. Have you tried painting on top of it (Chalk Paint seems to go over polished furniture without a problem - maybe it could do the job for you. Try a sample pot. It will always wash off with water if you don't like it. It can be Sealed with Clear wax or Antique to make it more durable. Have you tried sample pots of emulsion in places difficult to see.................

yes, it was the vinyl original. We papered over it and I was wondering if we could take the wallpaper off and paint the walls

I found using a steam machine worked the best to remove wallpaper. Do not score it--you'll make holes in the walls that you'll then have to fill.

Thank you Barbara, I will try that when I'm ready to do it.

OK, not sure how old your mobile home is but they tended to have a board with a vinyl covering or paneling. My bet is the vinyl covered wall board. Do not use anything that could make holes in that vinyl. I have used just hot water, sponged it on, let it sit a bit and pulled the wall paper off. Don't use a scraper (it will be tempting) but you could use a sponge to scrub on it with. I am afraid a steamer might damage that underlying wall board. Best of luck, this is a messy process.

You can use steam to loosen the wallpaper and pull it off.

We simply we an oil base primer then painted with the color we chose ( it was a latex paint) we got great coverage. We tried peeling the wallpaper but it started peeling the wallboard because the mobile home was so old.
Oh we also prepped the wall before priming with a degreaser .
    (Awesome cleaner / degreaser)

If you used Vinyl paper , it should just pull off in one sheet if you used wallpaper adhesive. If it was ordinary wallpaper use warm soapy water to penetrate the paper and loosen up the paste. It may take a little time to soak, but then it should be ok to gently use a paint scraper or better still an Ice scraper you use for cars (Plastic as against steel) and scrape it off. Then hopefully you should be able to paint..........Good luck!
