Yes min wax makes both oil bas and water base. Either is good. However if counter top is wood the oil base will soak into it where water base basically sits on top and doesn't soak thru. Both are very durable

I'm not sure but I do know you need to make sure what ever you use must be food grade safe. I'm assuming counter tops in the your kitchen...but of course thats not much of a issue on counter tops in the bathroom. What type of counter top material are you wanting to seal? Check out this site about a product called Kleer Koat Table Top Epoxy & Bartop Epoxy... www.uscomposites.com/kk121 Good luck with your DIY product. I'm sorry I don't have more info for you.

In the kitchen I would use butcher block oil on wood. It is food safe.

Use at least three coats of a water based polyurethane. First coat will be absorbed into the grain. It will be safe once its cured. For direct food contact use mineral oil. I use it on cutting boards I make.
