My kitchen is plaster/lathes. Is off-white beadboard panels too much?

Is putting bead board panels on ceiling and walls (off white) too much for a rather small kitchen? What about on ceiling and chair rail height with molding atop?

I think it might look like your kitchen was inside a box. What about wainscoting height on walls and then styrofoam or metal pieces glued to ceiling that looks like old tin. If you do the whole kitchen perhaps painting ceiling a light blue or other color would make it look like a cool old porch? Just brainstorming. Good luck with your project!

Sandy that would look great. I'm thinking chair rail height in the kitchen. Please don't be like the previous owners of my house who put the chair rail upside down through the whole house! Please consider posting pictures. I'd love to see what's happening.

My house is like this. I have used the white beadboard on walls and Styrofoam ceiling tiles. I've also used the mini tiles you can put on all by yourself. There is no way to fix our old walls except remove them, put in insulation and sheetrock. Not happening here!! So a fresh coat of paint and a few special touches make it lovely to me. Have fun!!

Mellori, thank you for your response! Did you put your bead board from floor to ceiling or chair rail height? Yes, I'm plaster and lathes and trying to keep as much originality as I can. I have saved every piece of anything that has been removed right down to the screws and nails. Definitely a fresh coat of paint would be a great improvement. Thanks for your suggestions! Sandy
