How to repair expanded fiberboard trim?
We have baseboards made of fiberboard that have expanded due to moisture. How can I repair them so that I don't have to replace them?

They will continue to break down now that they’re water damaged. You could spend many hours patching them only to have it eventually fail.
Builder’s Pack (10 sticks) of molding are cheap. What is your time worth to have to go back and re-patch them once a year?
Tear them out, look at what the moisture source is and make sure it didn’t ruin your flooring.
Seal the bottom & back of the new trim. Buy a miter box and a nail set/punch, or an electric brad nailer .
Agree with Cheryl. Another idea instead of a miter box, you can buy corner blocks for any decor. Pop those babies in the corners and everything is a straight cut no need for mitering. Jus' sayin.
It swelled from moisture. No way to repair. Needs to be replaced. Sorry.
Sadly you'll have to replace them as once moisture gets in, there isn't a way to fix them.
