Redoing peeling bathroom walls

Question

I want to redo the walls which are peeling in our motorhome bathroom.  Any suggestions?

i would want to find out why the walls are peeling ... Maybe lack of ventilation?  Turning on the fan to pull moisture out?
I would scrape down the walls and remove any loose paint.  Do the need a skim coat of mud to make them smooth?  We have had to do this several times at different homes. Nee do thin coats of mud then we use a screen sander for dry wall to sand.  Or you can use a electric one that pulls the sanded drywall out of the air.  To be honest we tried it with the electric sander and ended up opening the windows and using a cheap screen sander wore mask it is faster and easier.
we put several skim coats on the walls then painted.  We also chalked afterward.

Sherie  has everything said that I was going to…after you find why it's peeling, and it may be just the weather, use KILZ to cover the walls before you paint.Good luck!

I agree with the 1st 2 comments regarding ventilation. If you don't have a good exhaust fan in there and your family takes long steamy showers, no matter what you do, peeling walls and along with mold will return. What is peeling from the walls, wallpaper or paint?

Ventilation is no problem and we have no humidity here so that is not why I am replacing it.  This is an OLD motor home we are refurbishing and I just wanted some ideas as to what would be interesting on the walls

Probably not much wall in the bathroom. I've used boarder wallpaper in our RV to change the look.

Try beadboard  wall paper with can be painted any color.  After peeling off the old of course.  Purchased at Lowes for about $16 a roll.

With no description of what type of specific surface,( wall board, wood, fiberglass, aluminum, composite board, etc)it is impossible to suggest apropriately.  But In general clean off and prep thoroughly any surface and prime/kiltz is a very good idea no matter what you are working on or going to apply, well worth your time and money. And start from the top!

This is a motor home that is going on the road or stationary?  I would suggest getting more wallboard and you could put it right over the old stuff.

This motorhome is going on the road.  It's an awesome old thing!  Just the wallpaper in the bathroom is gross and I'm removing it.  The walls underneath are perfect with no blemishes.  I just want to do something different.  Thanks for ideas.

How about peel and stick wood look flooring?  I have seen this done on other walls and it looks like real wood and farmhouse like.  Good Luck.

If it is peeling that much chances are either it doesn't have a bath-fan, it is an inadequate fan (volume of air movement), or it isn't left running long enough after a steamy shower! Whatever is replacing the peeling wall paper could be affected by the same thing!

It has a great fan.  It's just old and dried out and cracking.  It's a 1980 motorhome we are refurbishing.  Thanks so much for your help though as you are definitely correct on the bath-fan and the steam.

My hubby and I are refurbishing a 1973 MH. I feel your pain! The only update in mine is a piece of linoleum wallboard type stuff around the kitchen sink area. Perhaps that will work in your bathroom. Just glue on and add trim pieces! Would love to exchange ideas and photos!

Thanks Julie. My husband actually redid the bathroom with new shower surround panels and it is awesome. Love my mh bath!
