Crack in concrete floor! help

I pulled carpet up in hallway. Nothing under it but the pad and what looks like the concrete foundation of the house. Do they lay carpet directly on concrete foundation?

You can try fixing it with Quikrete. It's a great product for repairing concrete.

Yes they do lay carpet directly on concrete. Hardware stores sell concrete crack filler that comes in a squirt bottle. Fill the crack and let it dry. Remove any bumps before it dries. Caulking works too, but it doesn't flow into the crack.

Yes, it is a common practice to lay carpet pad & carpet directly over concrete. If your foundation only has a surface crack, I would not worry about repairing it, because more than likely the concrete foundations surfaces will crack again with the homes movement. If it It a large deep crack, then you may have bigger problems, and may want to have a professional look at it, because your home may need to be leveled.
Concrete floor foundations are made to float, not like something floats on water, but concrete foundations float on soil as it moves due to drought, or substantial
amounts of rain that cause the soil to either contract or expand.

It is much better to have an under pad. It is reasonable in price, will make the carpet softer to walk and will also make the carpet last longer.
