How do I resurface an acoustical tile ceiling without removing it?

There are wood beams in the ceiling, so taking it down and putting drywall would be complicated. Is there a paper or skim coat which could be applied?

Acoustic tile is generally fibrous with a painted surface. Paper or any skim coat would really not stick to it. You can use 1/4" drywall over the tile. Made specifically for covering up popcorn and textured ceiling. Caulk the edges that meet with the beams.Helpful Reply -
