How do I use Dawn soap to remove ice from sidewalk?

This is crazy! Dawn dish liquid is a soap with degreasing agents in it. Won't do anything to ice or snow. The alcohol and hot water is what melts the ice and snow.
there are pet/people/plant safe 'de-icers' available that are much less expensive than homemade products DIY is not always, in the long run, the best option!
Just recently there was a video made by a television weather man, showing how to melt ice on your car windows, so being in northern MN, I finally tried it, and it worked! They also reported that it will not harm the paint on your car. The mixture to use is 1 part water to 2 parts rubbing alcohol, put into a spray type of bottle and spray away. This morning I had ice on all of the car windows and when I sprayed the mixture on, it disappeared immediately... that ice was not thick, but would have taken a lot of time scraping off all 6 windows. A few days ago, the ice on the car was thick, and when I sprayed the windows, I saw it try to melt the ice, but it didn't get thru it all, so by the time I walked around the car doing all of the windows, I had to re-do the front and back windows, spraying on a lot, and then it did melt all of the ice. I would assume that this type of mixture, low water and rubbing alcohol, 1:2 ration, would melt ice on sidewalks, but I would then sweep any possible mixture off after the ice melts. When using this mixture on a car, there is no watered down ice or remaining mixture left on the windows because the force of driving the car would removed it. I now keep a bottle of the mixture in a spray bottle on the floor of the car... it won't freeze, and it's always available to me. It sure beats using an ice scraper for 15 minutes, or using the defrosters and wasting a quarter of a tank of gas! ! !
