You either have to replace the entire mirror or you can have the mirror cut down to a smaller size.
Exactly. Best use for a broken mirror is to make a Mosaic by cracking it worst on Cardboard, beneath a Thick Towel with a Hammer.

I would hide it by putting some sort of contact paper or washi tape design at bottom of closet door or even around entire thing like a border/frame
No real way to repair it except to cover the mirror all around. To prevent it from spreading use some two part epoxy and gently push it into the crack. Clean off any excess with nail polish remover.
