If I sand the case, I would be removing the wording, which I do not want to do. It needs cleaned and the wood protected.

Think I'd use HOWARD'S FEED and CLEAN product for unfinished woods; work with the grain, using a dry terry cloth rag; you don't want to get it 'too' clean.... even hosing it off with a strong stream of water and letting it dry thoroughly before using the 'Howards' will get rid of accumulated 'crud' in the seams ...

I would try a mixture of water,vinegar and Dawn(blue). Mix in spray bottle and spray on and rinse off.
