Can you remove the sewing machine? If so then you could simply add a wood top ( cut, stained and protected w/a couple layers of polyurethane ) and us it as a side table. I'm assuming the base is the interesting " antique " part.

yes the machine can come out. the base is really antiquey. maybe just put the polyurethane on the top, it folds out and the machine rises up, close the top and it goes down and close the top. The cabinet is really cute, it belonged to my husband's great grandmother, I used it but the cord to go on the wheel gave out and u can't find another. I'm 70 so I just want to show it off. thanks for the idea

Remove the sewing machine cabinet and just use the metal base as table legs - use a pretty piece of wood and stain to your liking for an interesting console table which you can use in most any space.

My mother had one of there. It was old and in poor condition. She removed the sewing machine part and had a piece of marble cut for the top. She put it in the living-room and kept a vase of fresh flowers on it.

You could use as a bar or a desk or tv stand or for plants
