They have fabric transfer u can buy at a craft store
There are many things that can be done to add style to your curtains. I start with hardware. Find a curtain rod that goes with your room(s). Use the same style for all the rooms to pull the look together. Since you mentioned the black fireplace, black rods and hardware may be the way to go.
Rings with clips are a nice finish at the curtain to and makes opening and closing so easy.
There are are stunning tiebacks if you like to have the curtains open and out of the way. Consider add them.
After er you have decided on hardware it is time to find the best height (like 4" down from the ceiling) and width to place your rods. I like curtain hung high to give the illusion of a talker window. Usually the width will be 2" past the window.
Consider layering you window with a Roman blind underneath and sheers over. If it is quite cold where you live then sheers and a heavier drape.
As as for giving your curtains a "wow"- don't skimp on the material. Purchase curtains that are at least double the width. Be sure the length is just a hair above the floor. Choose a fabric that has a little weight. Stores such as JC Penny offer curtains (everyday sheets) that are great quality and a very reasonable cost. Stores like Big Lots and Target are great for window hardware.
There are many in home blind/drape/curtain companies that will come and show you different window ideas for free. It's a great way to learn about options and to glean the expertese of someone that can address your situation.
Updating your windows can really add a nice design feature to your place, have some fun.
I have never bought curtains before and I want to do it right. What are the ones that keep the room cool in the summer and warm in the winter? I'm a home owner now and thanks about telling me about the hardware. If I'm going do this I'm going do it right all the way...
