I have to keep my curtains closed because my windows are very close to the sidewalk (apartment building). Sheers let light in but no privacy. is there something I can do that doesn't look weird from the outside? Thanks.

    Oh yes there is!

It is easier than you think too. If you remember going to a restaurant and seeing the window blinds that allow you to see out and passersby cannot see in? This is exactly what I am suggesting.

You could visit a blinds store and see what they have to offer, or if you like, go on Amazon. It comes down to whether you want to put them up or have an installer come to your house and put them up. Depends on your skill set.

My friend has these and loves them, they let the light in and she has plenty of privacy. Hers are the roll up kind.

One way window screen should do the trick. There are even screens with pics on them. The beauty is that you can see out but no one can see in. Amazon has a nice selection but they are sol by many stores.

There are several things you could do. You can apply a mix of cornstarch and water and apply a lace type fabric to your window. Here is a link for that:

Or apply a window film: https://www.amazon.com/Designer-Pebble-Decorative-Window-Adhesive/dp/B00NWP055A

Both options will give you privacy will still letting light in. Good luck!

amazon sells sheets of a plastic material with many different patterns/styles. Rabbitgoo window film is one kind. you just wet the window, cut the plastic to fit, place on window and then I used a plastic car snow window scraper to press on and get rid of air bubbles. no glue, so u can peel off anytime without a mess. used in bathroom 3 years ago and it is still there. easy! pattern you pick will determine how much privacy you get. total privacy for bathroom and lots of light!

Frosted or translucent contact paper would work.

Mini blinds can let in light while still blocking the view.
