Fiberglass windows or private custom made windows.
Also, does anyone know of small companies who make high quality windows?
They don't have to be high end wooden Andersen windows, but I just don't want flimsy ones, or ones that don't open easily, quality locking mechanism, has a screen that fits securely but is easy to remove, etc...
I prefer double hung.

KMS Woodworks on Feb 17, 2013Window quality varies by what features you look for. Most big box stores sell the most basic and simple stuff. ie: Jeldwen cheapo vinyl. Jeldwen also makes much better windows in vinyl but also wood. Just about every manufacturer has a full range. Just like you can get a basic honda accord, or a fully tricked out Acura. Here is a listing of the top 100 manufacturers by sales volume http://www.windowanddoor.com/top-100-manufacturers-2012-sales-category some of these might be "local" to your area.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 17, 2013If your looking to save money and not use the Name brands, Pella and Anderson to name a few have a builders quality window that you can purchase for less. However the Big Box stores also sell custom windows by other manufactures depending upon the location in the country you are looking to purchase. Just remember however, you do get what you pay for.Helpful Reply
