When is the best time to transplant trees?

3po3 on Feb 17, 2013Spring is typically the best time to plant trees, so they can be established before the heat of the summer. Arizona is hotter and drier than Colorado, so I would guess you could go earlier, too, because I don't think they are going to freeze.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Feb 18, 2013Mellie, for transplanting, you want to do so when the tree is as close to dormant as possible. I actually prefer to do so in late fall, because the tree will have a chance to settle in before being asked to grow again, but now is OK as long as you act quickly. I suggest you do a soil test before you proceed, as there may be pH issues affecting how well your trees are doing. That will also tell you how best to amend the soil. Do remember that your trees will need deep, regular watering to help them get established in their new home.Helpful Reply
