Moldy mulch
Can someone tell me how to get rid of fungus in mulch? There is white, smelly, mold in the mulch of my flower gardens. Not healthy for me or my plants?

Janet Pizaro on Oct 01, 2015There is no reason for concern with the mold on the mulch. This is a very common problem due to excessive moisture. This will not harm your plants and most likely dissipate. If you are still uncertain with my response you can research this on gardeningknowhow.com fungus in mulch.Helpful Reply

Alice Shockley on Oct 02, 2015If you have a problem with mold because of health issues - such as allergies and the like, generally white mold is not dangerous - then you might end up simply getting rid of the wood mulch (hire it done or wear a respirator) and replacing it with stone or rubber mulch. But if mold isn't an allergy issue for you...then leave it or simply cover it with new mulch. :)Helpful Reply

SoilMender on Oct 03, 2015The white mold is natural and means that your mulch is alive and decomposing which will feed your plants and help create healthy soil. This year's mulch is next year's compost.Helpful Reply
