Susan Bechamp on Nov 27, 2015Cigarette butlers were designed to hold and dispense cigarettes. The lid might be weighted to a spring loaded counter-weight that would lift the cigarettes to the top of the case when the lid is raised. Could you clean it up and use it to dispense other items? If the dispensing function can't be fixed, use it just as a container meant for storage of small treasures. Keep it on your desk, store your flash drives inside. Convert it to a piggy bank, or store spare set of keys. What items will fit inside and be useful to you?Helpful Reply

Pam Walker on Nov 28, 2015Since it's an antique. I'd buy a shadowbox & hang it on the wall for a display. Anytime you upcycle an antique, it looses its value. If it's anything like the pic below, it's valued at around $35.oo as an antique. I'd treasure it instead. :)Helpful Reply

Anne on Nov 28, 2015If it's anything like the above pictured one, I would suggest a toothpick holder for the dinner table or a mints holder. In the bathroom/dressing table it looks like it could hold bobby pins. I think it would best be used to reflect a memory of it's original owner. My grandmother was a smoker and didn't have one of these but if she had and I had the opportunity to acquire it, I would use it as a needle and thread holder since she was also a needlepointer/cross stitcher. It would combine a memory for me of her and turn it back to a utilitarian item :)Helpful Reply

Sandra Allen on Nov 28, 2015All the suggestions are good. If you wanted to use it for seasonal faux flowers, you could prop the lid open with a small dowel and the flowers would cover it. I hope these all helped.Helpful Reply
