SawHorse Design Build on Dec 26, 2011Yes. Depending on the color of the caulk, you may look into a caulk that is the color of the grout. 1. Tape off the wall and caulk the gap. 2. Pull the tape off and you will have a nice straight line.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Dec 27, 2011I often use the "sanded" caulk in the exact color as the sanded grout for this type of install. This gives you a easy alternative that is flexible. Its latex based so a wet finger is used to smooth and detail.Helpful Reply

Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Dec 27, 2011I also use caulk along the top of the tile. Usually I will use paintable caulk. After laying the bead of caulk, I use a damp rag to remove as much as possible off the top lip of the tile, then you can touch up or paint all the way down to the tile top and it gives a good transition between the two.Helpful Reply

Peace Painting Co., Inc. on Dec 30, 2011You are on the right track Gordon with these inputs. You can also tape the top of the tile to make a nice caulk line. Your better caulks like DAP 230 will not shrink so much and be more cleanable. Best, CharlesHelpful Reply

Regenia S on Mar 04, 2012I am thinking of putting the baseboard or skirting tile in my bath and I'm wondering how to transition from the tile to the door trim? Do I have to smooth the edge of the tile and polish it, I just don't like the unfinished look between the two. Am I making sense? I wish I could see pics of what you've done Gordon.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Mar 05, 2012Regenia...if the doors trim goes all the way to the floor I normally just butt the tile base up to the edge of the wood. I place the same small "grout space" gap between the tile and the wood and use a matching grout colored caulk there. Tile to wood, and plane changes always get the "caulk" instead of grout.Helpful Reply
