Kapiteinterzee on Jan 06, 2016I had a similar problem when I lived in New York. Replacing the entire door is very expensiveso I DIY’d it. I removed the bottom two panels and took them apart and taking photos of everything – the mounting hardware, the attachments, etc. Leave nothing to memory. Then I cut a number of 2” x 4” treated wood studs to width and length - using the old ones for the dimensions. I also cut the interior rectangular inserts to size using the originals as guides. Assembly and hardware attachments were easy as I had the photos to guide me. When I finished I had an exact duplicate ofthe rotten door panels. It took me two days from start to finish. BTW, I used old plywood sheets nailed to the inside of the bottom of the door to keep the varmints, including the two footed ones, from wandering into my shed. If you are not a DIYer. . . get help from a neighbor who ishandy with tools.Helpful Reply

Betty Miller on Jan 06, 2016Post an ad on craigs list for the job to find someone locally if no one locally contacts you from Hometalk.. Just make sure you check out anyone you get and get comparision bids if possible. Since it is a barn you may be able to repair rather than replace full door. Repaint and good to go.Helpful Reply

Gloria Monroe on Jan 08, 2016it tight.I would and give the rest of the door a nice coat of paint and it will be fine I think, if you feel you need wood at the bottom that would be nice too get what ever size all the other boards are and nail them on top of the metal.,im not a professional and your door may be worse than it looks ,what I was saying at first I would get some flashing like you put on a roof when you shingle ,nail down tight to the front and wrap around and nail tight on the back if there is rot on the other boards clean with peroxide too it is the only thing that really gets rid of mold and mildewHelpful Reply

Cindi on Jan 08, 2016If you're looking for a firm to come repair it for you, I'm sure you can check online, or your phone book. We have a place here in CO called Overhead Garage Doors, not sure of the cost though. If you can find someone trustworthy, maybe someone could do it for cheaper. Angie's List is also a good resource, and have special deals, not sure if they have that where you are either.Helpful Reply

Judy Gordon on Jan 09, 2016I would contact Overhead Garage Door (they are everywhere) and have them give me an estimate. If the door is higher than a standard garage door covers, the top could be filled in with other material and then have the garage door installed. I definitely would NOT contact anyone from Craigs List, there have been too many posts there that have ended in bad instances.Helpful Reply

Andrea Landrum on Sep 18, 2016On the inside of the door, there should be some way that the wood is attached to the door, one panel run at a time. Unattach it from the rest of the door ( bottom) . Once it is detached take the trim off, just one panel, take both pieces to purchase wood, cut to size and reassemble.!Helpful Reply
