Hi Connie! Folks are using them for so many things now. Just as shelf decor is one. But you can google up cycled books or put the same in the search on Pinterest. I wish you luck in your up cycling project!

you could cover them in just about any paper or fabric and use them to raise objects for display at different heights, or you could hollow out the inside and have a secret stash, or maybe make a spiral tower of them after painting the outside and drilling a hole in the middle of each one... I also love Dougal's idea!

You can spray paint the out side any color. Then use scrapbooking paper wrap it around the spine about 2" on each side of the spine or after it's painted draw designs, paint designs on the spine or use scrapbook stickers to decorate it.

I recently got rid of my big overbearing bookcase and put in a fireplace surround I found at a peddlers mart. I took my hardback books I wanted to keep and stacked them inside the mantel middle and used the books to support a piece of old wood planks to make a shelf for flowers. Turned out beautiful.

A few years ago I came across an idea where you stack three or four books, drill a hole through each one, run wire through them (wire from a lamp kit) finish off by attaching the rest of the kit, Now, you have a unique table lamp. Years ago I used some older books for scrapbooks, tear out a few pages throughout the book then attached pictures and different items. Gave one to my Dad and my four brothers.

I saw this at my local library during the Christmas holidays. Open several books in the middle, pages down, stack several one on top of the other. The outcome is a Christmas tree. You could paint the binding with different colors for more interest. I will be making this next Christmas. Or Google "christmas tree made out of books". Have fun.
