Shower noise- sounds like squealing

Cindy Corean on Jan 14, 2016Get a plumber. The shower head is probably not high enough from the faucet below. That was the diagnosis when ours was doing the same thing, but unless you or your husband are VERY handy, this is not a DIY project.Helpful Reply

Wanda.ll on Jan 15, 2016I answered about who might can help but remembered this. Is has something to do with the air in the pipes. Might have to go up on roof and drop a water hose down. But check with Johnnie's daughter Trudy first.Helpful Reply

Patty on Jan 15, 2016I agree with @Wanda,,sounds like an air block in the vent pipeline,,I cleaned out lots of broken leaves,,etc.,,and capped it with some micro-meshed screen (Loews),,haven't had a problem in years since. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Rus1058682 on Jan 15, 2016It's trying to suck air when the shower line is evacuated.. could be a clogged screen in the showerhead, such as calcium. I would first try removing the showerhead, and running the water as if taking a shower, then turn it off and see if the sound still occurs before I climbed on the roof.. Good Luck...Helpful Reply

Rus1058682 on Jan 15, 2016This has nothing to do with the plumbing vent, in my opinion. When you turn the shower off, it is designed to remove the water from the SHOWER line. It normally feeds back through the manifold of the unit.. If the airflow back down from the shower is restricted, it will whistle, where the plumbing vent will 'gurgle' and not drain properly..Helpful Reply

Thebakers47 on Jan 15, 2016I have the same problem. I know mine is in the pull up diverted. When the noise starts I can move the diverter down a little then back up and it'll stop for a little while. I'll be interested if one can answer this questions.no gurgling in the drain. Just high pitch squealing. Not enjoyable.Helpful Reply

Sparkles on Jan 15, 2016You may have calcium build up in the hot water tank. Flush it out and it may help with the problem. We have done this a couple of times and it works,Helpful Reply

Labright on Jan 15, 2016It is a tub shower or walk in shower? Is the squeal coming from the shower head or drain? Or if tub is it coming from tub spout divertor?Helpful Reply

Ranger on Jan 16, 2016The shower head may also have calcium or lime deposits blocking it. We boils ours in a saucepan of malt vinegar for a couple of hours (low boil) about every three months. Works a treat cleaning it.Helpful Reply
