Color on house exterior

Dfm on Feb 02, 2016i would be temped to find a paint strip that has near to same colors in use on the house, and keep the colors complimentary not contrasting. the facade looks really busy as it is. a deep sandy beige might work as a medium tone.Helpful Reply

Janet Pizaro on Feb 02, 2016In my opinion there are so many windows I do not think adding shutters will be to your benefit,Instead I would be inclined to spend the money on painting the trim and the door the same color. Perhaps a medium brown to compliment the house color.Helpful Reply

Dee on Feb 02, 2016My husand really doesn't want to get into painting all the brown aluminum trim for an income property. I agree tho that it would look much better. ThanskHelpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Feb 02, 2016shutters will not work for this style of home since you have rows of windows on one side and not enough room on the other. Paint the front door a nice bold color like teal, burnt orange, or even a medium blue. Curb appeal with some foundation shrubs and flowers. since this is a rental property you need it to appeal to the renters and bright front door welcoming them. I also think you should put an portico (or small porch roof like the front door) on the side entrance. This will help with keeping rain away from the door way plus if that is the entrance people use it will help with getting in the house during inclement weather. You could add a trim or cornice above the windows on the 1st floor which may help dress up the outside of the house. I would also think about doing window treatments that match in all the windows even if it is inexpensive mini blinds. having window treatments that are the same (which many subdivisions have rules to do) really helps make the house look better. just some thoughtsHelpful Reply

Dee on Feb 02, 2016A lot of good thoughts thanks. We are planning on a roof over the lst floor set of all the windows on the left side but wanted to add some color to the right side where the 2 sets of 2 big windows are. Can't put a roof on side door entrance as the driveway is insanely narrow, hardly can get passed it now so we may modify that entrance some. Thanks for all the ideas!!!Helpful Reply

Bit By Bit Shop on Feb 02, 2016Can you spray paint the white storm windows brown to match that brown around them? I painted all of our window trim black (it was a faded tan) & everyone thinks we got new windows! I would make the door an appealing turquoise & add fancy house numbers, remove that little fence & add potted plants if you can't afford shrubs. I would make the potted plants myself to keep cost down or plant perennials like hosta in different sizes or a small decorative grass. Also a power washer can really brighten up steps/walkways. Even if the siding doesn't look dirty power washing can make things look new again. I only have a little inexpensive power washer but my goodness it is amazing!Helpful Reply

CK on Feb 03, 2016Since the siding and trim are both very neutral, color for shutters, doors, etc. may depend on certain factors: Do you want this home to stand out in the neighborhood or blend in? Are there any color restrictions in your area for home exteriors? What year is the house? Is there a color that is more appropriate to the home's age? These are questions I'd ask a client were he/she asking me about shutter/door colors. Or...you could just go with a color you truly love. Sometimes the buyer will change it anyway after they move in. We did with both homes we've lived in. Color is really personal :-)Helpful Reply

Elaine DeLong-fuehrer on Feb 09, 2016a red door sounds good with the busy front... im not sure about adding shutters and or painting them red. a Yellow door might work well too. even for something that is called an income property. ur place might call the "right renter" if it has an over all paint job. yes it will be lots of work.. but then u will attract the renters that will pay what u are wanting. after all u are wanting to make money.Helpful Reply
