Our guest "bedroom" is part of a family room

I'm wondering how to delineate the sleeping area from the rest of the room. The bed and tables occupy one corner. The rest of the room has two chairs and a reclining couch, as well as a TV. And it looks just like it sounds: a bed shoved into a room meant for another purpose.

I had a guest bedroom that included a livingroom area as well in my previous house. I separated the bed area by placing a partial wall. It kept the light from the sunroof from shining on the bed early in the morning as well as provided separation. If you do not wish to do something as permanent as a wall, you could hang ceiling to floor curtains from a ceiling canopy kit or instead of using traditional bedroom suite, substitute bedding that includes storage and could be used as additional seating in the family room (i.e. platform bed preferably two twin size that could be put together if desired when company arrives) as this would then become part of the family room and no delineation would need to be made.

Wall of bookcases or perhaps a soji screen? http://www.target.com/p/4-panel-shoji-screen-natural/-/A-11053651?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C11053651&CPNG=Home+Decor&kpid=11053651&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=11053651 Another option could be replacing the "bed" with a pull out bed / couch. Then it only looks like a bed when its being used as a bed...If you only have occasional guests this could be a nice alternative.
  • I would actually recommend a Murphy bed where it looks like a piece of furniture during the day & some soji screens for privacy when needed

I would use 2 daybeds in the corner with a table at the heads of them. Offset chairs toward the tv. Or you can turn the bed into a sitting area also and incorporate into the room, sofa tables which can be used for writing, crafts with it. Coffee tables would work also.
