Drilling fired ceramic Planters
-
SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on May 05, 2013That's not pre-drilled, that is actually fired that way With that there are specialty bits you can get for ceramic tiles - I would place it in a piece of Styrofoam to help hold it, pour water in there to help keep it cool, and then drill One trick to prevent the bit from wandering is to chip the area where you want to drill - generally we will use a warn out one, hold it at an angle & smack it lightly with a hammerHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on May 05, 2013They as SLS said make bits for this type of material. You also will have luck with the Dremel tool as well. They make all sorts of bits that will create a hole for you. Just remember that the larger the hole the harder it will be to drill without cracking the material So a few more smaller ones will be better than one or two larger ones.Helpful Reply

Joan Cofell on May 19, 2013Thanks Folks! I had a dremel bit but I don't think the plants will rot - greenhouse lady told me not to over-water and wait till they were dry before watering again. I also put a few small stones in the bottom.Helpful Reply

Anna Ibarra on May 19, 2013I used a ceramic drill bit to make holes in all my ceramic pots. I am not a savvy one with tools, just in the crafty dept., but I had not problem. I did use a little water as the drill bit would start steaming up some. I put them upside down on solid surface and just drilled away. Easier then I thought. Those are so nice, did you get them at a local hardware store, or a national chain?Helpful Reply
