Looking for a gray with a SLIGHT blue under-tone

HELP! I think this is an impossible task, but I'm gonna try!
We are building a house & I am wanting the main part of it paint in a medium to light gray with a hint of a blue undertone. Our house is south facing, but I don't think it will be super bright. Every time I think I've found it, I read some where that it was too blue, looked like a baby's nursery or turned green in certain light.....etc.
Thank you in advance!!

Honestly the only suggestion for you is to buy color samples and try them in your home. There are many colors that play differently in the home because of lighting not just grays.

I agree with Janet. Go to the paint store and obtain those wonderful little strips of color samples. Tape them to your wall. Look at them at different times of the day. The light in the room will give you a good idea of what will work and what won't. I do this all the time when I get ready to decide if a color is going to work or not. Do you have something from the room that you can put up against the color sample to see if that is the gray that you want to incorporate. What we think we want and what actually goes with the items in the room can be two vastly different choices.
  • When you go to a store and look at paint samples, you need to walk outside in the sun with them! The sun changes everything! Go to the blue section of samples and go backwards looking for blue gray. As stated, go to the store and get 4-6 paint sample strips to tape all around the room. Sun and clouds change paint and the lights in stores do not give true color so you have to take home the samples. I live with them sometimes for a couple days to see what it looks like in sun, clouds, and at night. Good luck

I was looking for the EXACT same gray in our house and went through five different samples. You can see some pics of the house over on my profile to see the color we ended up with. Its called "Touch of Gray" by Valspar, its in a flat finish. To me, its a touch too blue, I wanted something just a little bit more gray or even more of a purple hint. But it might be exactly what you're describing because it is really NOT blue, I'm just a picky idiot. What I learned when looking for grays is that it is really difficult! In the store they all looked practically white then I brought them home and tested them by our white trim and bam, wow that's too dark, that's too blue etc lol it was much harder then I had expected. Good luck!!

Get a lot of paint strip samples. Sometimes even the lightest color is too dark so youifht want to look at whites with blue-grey undertones rather than grey with blue undertones

You best bet is to go to a Sherwin Williams Paint Store, for you can play with the color chips under different light settings to see how it will work. When you think that you have found some shades that may be doable, then purchase those colors in the small paint samples that you can get, and apply where you want it, then look at it under different times of the day and lighting. Just remember that when you add furnishings that to can give the color a different hue.

When I was looking for a grey I found a brochure from Behr at HD called Interior Neutrals. I wound up going with aqua grey so it has a lot of blue in it and I love it but other colors in the brochure may be for you.

I started painting my front porch today with a color to see if I would like the color on my whole house. I went to Sherwin Williams and the color I picked is Reflection. It is a grey with a beautiful blue undertone to it. All day today the color kept changing with the sun shining and the clouds passing by. It is definitely gonna be the color for my whole home.
