Can you put any tank on the b ack of a toilet?

We need to replace our toilet tank. Do any tanks work? What do I have to look for to ensure the tank and bowl are compatible ?

It should be the ank designed or the bowl. Some others may be compatible, but there are variables in drain hole size, seating to the rear of the bowl, spread of the flanking blts, volume of water to use in flushing, and probably more that only a crapper engineer could tell you

how old is the toilet? It may be easier to replace the whole thing. You will need to know the make and the model of the toilet.
