Ideas need to upcycle this light

This is the light fixture in my living room. I just redid all the walls to a gray/blue shade and updated curtains to a patterned gray. As soon as money allows I will be replacing carpet to dark gray with touches of turquoise and black in the accessories and some wood here and there. I am going for a modern/rustic look. What ideas do all of you have for updating this fixture?

I like it as is...bit you can get a different finial. And if you can paint the metal edge at top...to one of your high light colors or silver/metal. You can also cover the the filigree metal to just be plain too. There is this great metal kind of ribbon at craft stores you can use.

Take apart and spray paint the metal pieces black to match your black accents.

I would find some kind of 'plate' to put up against the ceiling a couple inches bigger than the fixture. Have it a polished finish and it will reflect the light wonderfully all around and , as has been said, paint the metal pieces a colour that compliments your room colour.

@Kim Kilmer & bdtoronto I also think this is the best idea and can upcycle the light fixture into your new favorite. I think a "plate of some kind with cast iron black spray paint on anything but glass. The plate could become a statement if you made it your self. Mix material ceiling décor. Could frame with wood and use a decorative tin piece in the center. You will need a little extra wiring bc it will be a little lower. Replace the final that holds glass in place with something that speaks to your style. If you want a full change get a new piece of glass (new globe. if it is more of a flater bowl and larger with cool glass then it is a whole ne fixture.

I like it as it is but you could see how it looks if you put a medallion on the ceiling over it. Can't tell if the trim is gold or not but if it is I would leave it as gold is coming back in style.

How about adding/hanging long or (various sz's) crystals around the metal trim, almost chandelier like...

How about painting the fixture. If you have painted in the blues/grey hues, you could spray paint the metal part of the fixture to a similar color or black. Some prep work would be needed. You can also change the glass. They do sell replacement that would probably work in another shape. If you paint, you could tape paper to cover the ceiling before spray painting, if you do not want to remove the fixture to paint it. Make sure you cover a big area around the light (to protect from over spray)

Take the glass or plastic off the metal pieces and drape glass ,or wood,or crystals beads. From the larger fancy metal swag a length of whatever you choose to the Center and contine with another swag same length right next to it,continue all the way around. Probably wood beads for a more rustic vibe.

I would take it down and spray paint the fixture a flat black. Then I would mod podge the glass with turquoise tissue sort of a crackle effect... you could even use different colour tissues the light would then come through. Or you could glue on turquoise glass bead as well mix up the colours too... clear and tuquoise... that would look stunning the light would also shine lovely through the beads..

You could gut the electrical parts, take off the shade, flip it, paint it (or not) and turn in into something similar to what I just made...http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/a-part-from-a-ceiling-fan-is-transformed-into-an-accessory-tray-14998856?scid=2541196.....OR, instead of an accessory tray, put a glass lid on it and it could be a cake stand. :-)

Be careful that whatever youd o/add to the fixture can get hot, read the instructions carefully. The lightbulb makes the whole thing get hot.

@Polly Zieper I've switched to all LED bulbs which don't get hot at all. Absolutely love those LEDs. Expensive to buy at first but they save a ton on electricity and last for 1000s of hours!

Look at this picture I just saw on Hometalk. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/garden-fence-lampshade-2285946 I've seen the garden fencing in black at Walmart.
