my cone shaped purple plant got super leggy and fell over, how do I prune this plant? Does anyone know what went wrong? I see them everywhere in So. Ca and they are sturdy and beautiful. I posted before and after. The after is when i was controlling them with sticks but they got too heavy and knocked them down. I also dont know the name.

Stacy, I believe your plant is Echium candicans, and I'd say the reason it got leggy is because it wasn't getting enough light. They need full sun.

Chicago Botanic Gardens have these Crown of Jewels packed together to support each other like you would Delphiniums or Fox Gloves. I don't think there's much you can do besides re-stake them! www.glenviewgardeners.org

I'm gonna go with Douglas on this one...leggy plants are usually the result of not enough sunlight.
