Douglas Hunt on May 06, 2012If your tree was healthy when it came down, it's fine to use the needles as mulch. But it's actually only an old wives' tale that they acidify the soil. If the soil is acidic it was that way before you planted the spruce. Before you plant new things, it would be best to do a soil test.Helpful Reply

Rebecca D on May 06, 2012How much sun do you have since the tree is cut now? Think about sun loving plants if that's your case! I use the needles as a mulch. Compost the rest! My next door neighbor has a 100 ft pine in her yard. : )Helpful Reply
