Deborah Sullivan on Jun 20, 2013No it is not either of those. I know what they look like. This is more like a bush type. The stems are a purple red color and soft. The flower is maybe and inch wide. Not very big.Helpful Reply

Anja on Jun 20, 2013I think the nursery in town I shop at has those, but they grow them in hanging baskets. They hang down and get very long. They look exactly like yours, size of flower, color, the stems and leaves, etc. unfortunately I don't recall the name of it.Helpful Reply

Annie Stuart on Jun 21, 2013If i had a better look at the foliage I could tell you better, but my closest guess is Mexican Sunflower, aka tithonia. It's not the Swamp Helianthus, which has skinnier leaves. Definitely not echinacea or rudbeckia.Helpful Reply

Kelli on Jun 22, 2013Check this site, the picture you show looks pretty close to the one at the site it is called Sanvitalia and is a tender perennial that resembles a zinnia so much that it is commonly called creeping zinnia. ‘Tsavo Yellow Ice’ http://loghouseplants.com/plants/shop/sanvitalia-tsavo-yellow-ice/Helpful Reply

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Jun 23, 2013hm...I have never seen a sanvitalia get 5' tall, but maybe there is a new variety that I am not aware of. Most sunflowers have pubescent leaves (fuzzy like), the leaves on the picture don't look fuzzy to me. Most sunflower have alternate leaves, the leaves on the picture appear to be opposite (could be wrong the picture is a bit out of focus). Some Helianthus do have red stems, but they are alternate and not opposite leaves, and they are the right height range. Hope that helps.Helpful Reply

Judy Johnson Wilson on Jul 06, 2013After reading all these posts I went searching the web. I think you may have a crossbreed between a sunflower and a coneflower. They are related. Not one of the pictures of the flowers mentioned here look like yours. Either the center or the petals are different, or they have more rows of petals, which is why I believe its a hybrid. Your flower looks similar to both of them in one way but not the other.Helpful Reply
