Painting kitchen cabinets

Kimberly Barney on Jul 17, 2013It is very popular to paint cabinets two tone and I believe that the white and brown combination although trendy would add to the re-sale of your home more than yellow cabinets which would limit the buyer market. I do not know what shade of brown you are planning to go with. However, in our income property business, we have had good results from using a tan paint on the walls that have a lot of gray tone. It appeals to those wanting modern dƩcor, traditional dƩcor or country dƩcor.Helpful Reply

Patricia Presto/On The Surface on Jul 18, 2013I've done quite a bit of staging in my businesss, and I would recommend, as popular and cool the two color look is right now - I would paint them white. You have to take your personal style and taste out of the house in order for the new possible homeowner's to see themselves there. The only time I would suggest two colors is if you have an island. Paint the island the brown and the cabinets white. Hate to be a design wet blanket - but I've had houses sell in a day if it is completely neutralized (and it can take weeks or months to get it that way).Helpful Reply

Cyndi Moore Tippett on Jul 18, 2013Patricia, that is great advice. This house has been completely remodeled (17 months) and I have used neutrals through out, so I guess I will continue on.... What is your best advice for selling in a slow market, but the house is in a highly desireable neighborhood, but has several houses for sale. Is price always the determinor?Helpful Reply

Therese C on Jul 20, 2013Patricia is right....the best way to sell your home quickly is to keep it as neutral as possible. Color causes a person to look at the work of changing things to make a house their home. For some reason people want ready to go houses instead of what I look at...paint is replaceable, nothing is permanent in decorating...but it has to be de-personalized, and very neutral for selling. Don't be surprised if your realtor takes all family photos out of the house before showing it. Oh! And never leave out fresh flowers, perfumes, or air fresheners during showing..you never know who has allergies!Helpful Reply

Cyndi Moore Tippett on Jul 20, 2013Thank you, Therese C, we sold out last house 9 months ago and my Realtor told me to take everything off the walls. I was devasted at first bc of the work involved (three weeks). but when we moved it was so easy because everything but furniture was packed and ready to go....the hard part was it took eight months to sell.Helpful Reply
