Short of removing them and taking them to a knife shop, I would just buy another blender or write to the manufacturer to buy some new ones. This is assuming that the blades are removable.

Try blending ice cubes. To sharpen food disposal in your sink they say to once in awhile sharpen blades with ice cubes. Maybe it works for blenders, too. Cheap, and worth a try.

If you are trying to chop onions without liquid, it's very hard to chop onions, or any moist food, in a blender. Since the blades are higher up in the cup, they are designed to blend liquids, with food included, so that the liquid will carry the food to the blades. You need to use a food processor that has a hi-lo blade set, one blade very close to the bottom and one blade a bit higher. Together, they move the food off the bottom and into the path of the blades. A mini food processor can be gotten for as little as $15.

This works with Vitamix - really well. Add halved or quartered onions to blender and add water until the onions float. Pulse on high. Voila!

Just like Phil I've always heard to chop ice to sharpen the blades

Look at your mfg parts list. Many blades just unscrew from the glass part and can be replaced. My 40 yr old Oster still has blades available in kitchen stores or on line.

Perhaps shred some sandpaper and put it through the blender. It doesn't take long and blades are very sharp after. Like cutting sandpaper with scissors sharpens them.

Try the ice cubes. They say they help in a kitchen sink disposal too!

Yes. Whack an onion into chunks, add water to at least a half container full and 'pulse' to desired size then, drain well even if you blot generously with a paper towel. That's the easiest way if adding to a casserole or into cole slaw.

If you have a Oster, many parts are available at ACE Hwd. I have found the gaskets and blade assemblies there. I updated mine from a thrift shop when I purchased a vintage (I think) glass container to replace my rather frosted looking plastic one. That's the good thing about Oster. Most all parts are interchangeable. One classic design and most all still fits. You can also order blades from an on line spot. Who knew Oster had so many choices in blades? I didn't until I began the search.

Ask lawn mower repair place if graphite used to sharpen blades on a reel mower would work

Take your blades out. Grab a ceramic coffee cup. Go & watch some tv while doing this lol. Rub the blades in a single-stroke motion over the bottom of the cup. To check your progress, use a sharpie along the edge of the blades first, then start. You can see your progress as the sharpie lines disappear. Hope this helps. :)

Use ice to make frozen drinks in your blender on a regular basis and your blades will never get dull. I've been using my Ninja for 3 years and the blades are just as sharp as the day I started.😄

That's a mystery to me, too. I always thought ice would have a dulling effect. If it benefits those contributing, it must work. One guy said a small file. Yep, I sharpen my knives by hand with a tiny file. I move from the thicker side to the cutting edge keeping the same angle as the original to the knife. It's worth a try on blender blades.

Whirl a tray of ice cubes in the blender and see if that helps.

If using sharpening device (I use a small file for these types of blades) you might want to consider wearing gloves.

Not sure how it does it either. According to Bob Vila, eggs shells work too. I'll just stick with my frozen drinks. 😉

NO! Eggshells make blender blades DULLER! If I find that troll who started this rumor... I tested my blades for sharpness; before blending shells they were very dull, and afterwords they were much duller!

I blended for a full 30 seconds at slow, then medium, then high. 30 seconds each speed.

Use a sharpening stone, it only takes a couple minutes to get them razor sharp. Don't be a lazy American over-consumer and buy new ones.

If you have someone in town who sharpens scissors, ask if he/she also does blender blades.
