Is it hard to convert Gas log fireplace to wood burning fireplace
-
Darby C on Mar 29, 2011It is not hard to take the gas logs out, the problem is with the chimney. If you have a "direct vent" fireplace, one where the vent goes straight out the back of the fireplace chase, I don't think you can burn wood in them. I don't think that they will draw properly.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Jun 22, 2011A wood burning fireplace needs a completely different type of "chimney"...depending on what and how your gas version is installed this may a may not be cheap or easy. Class A chimney pipe is a pricy item (170 to 220 ) for a 4 foot piece of galv or SS.Helpful Reply

SawHorse Design Build on Jun 22, 2011Wood burning fireplaces put off more BTU's (heat) than gas fireplaces do so the current flue for the gas fireplace is going to be too small to burn wood. The new energy code in GA recommend that you install a direct vent fireplace with a glass front. This way you don't burn all of the oxygen in your home.Helpful Reply
