I think that would be a job for a pro (with insurance) as you don't want your house to blow up and have the insurance negated.
This is a difficult DIY project. I would contact a plumber that can plan the project and pull the correct permit. When using gas in your home for a fireplace everything must be vented properly to avoid C.Monx poisoning.

We did this to our fireplace and love it. Gas is not something to fool with if you aren't educated in it, very dangerous! I would say call an expert like we did.
