Morag Stafford on Sep 23, 2016make sure your shutters are nice and clean then paint with a regular paint suitable for outdoors - use brush or spray - I have done both and had good results which last for years!Helpful Reply

Micky on Sep 23, 2016I used exterior latex from Sh. Wms... has been on 5 yrs and looks as good as the day I did them. I have seen other spray them... not holding up so well in my opinion. I used a brush. Took a long time for 2 coats on 20 shutters, but worth it.Helpful Reply

FRED RIGGS on Sep 23, 2016It is not the heat that fades them, it is the sunshine. Mine were yellow for a long time and faded. Shutters are plastic. I cleaned them with my pressure washer, let them dry and used a latex paint, a different yellow and brushed the paint on. Just wanted a change in the yellow. There is no way of stopping the fade unless you cover them with black plastic. The UV rays will fade anything, including car paint color. Get a good latex of your color choice, wash and dry them, and a good "Purdy" brush, 1-1/2". Paint edges first, then the flat part of the top, then the slats. That way you won't get into your own paint job. Take your time and enjoy the new color you pick. I forgot to mention that it depends on what color you used. If it was very light, it may not fade as bad as if it is a dark color, like dark green, black or deep blue. If you have white, or light tan or some light color, it won't fade as bad or as quickly.Helpful Reply

Linn Prey on Sep 23, 2016I have vinyl shutters that are facing south on my home. I took them all down and painted them with the new plastic spray paint from Krylon about 10 years ago. They are holding up just fine. I used the same color - Burgandy - and did two coats and let dry then put them on the house.Helpful Reply
