How do I choose an exterior paint color for my front door?
-
Johnchip on Oct 07, 2016If 'color' alone is the issue, simple principle of art is: there are 3 primary colors; red, yellow and blue. See which ones the houses on either side of you are using. Use the other one. Or at least use that as the base line from where to go.Helpful Reply

Cindy Hagemann on Oct 07, 2016Janet is right - it depends on what your current colors are with the roof, house and any trim.Helpful Reply

Edith A. Robbins on Oct 08, 2016Choose a color that compliments the colors of your house and roof colors. Usually a nice contrasting color that will show up well. Plenty of choices out there. You can get color charts from most paint stores and also get a small sample made up to try on a sample board before you actually paint the door.Helpful Reply

Naomie Moore aka baileyanddaisey, Castaic CA on Oct 08, 2016You have a bunch of great suggestions here! I had to replace my roof in 2005. I picked the house and trim colors by pulling colors out from the roof (composite shingles.). The roof I ended up with has brown, copper, tan, peach. I painted the body of the house a light peachy tan, white trim (raingutters and garage door are white), and a deeper peachy coral for the door and accent to offset the white trim. Since I live in a desert type climate this works well for me. Walk or drive around your neighborhood and see what appeals to you and go for it! Have fun!Helpful Reply

IFortuna on Oct 08, 2016Any color you like. If you want to match it, go with the roof color or trim color. Look at some on line pictures of painted doors in Ireland. They are painted all different colors. The people wanted to show individuality and have been doing this since the 1700's. This is a charming effect for a home I think. : )=====Here is a fun link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jaimee-ratliff/...Helpful Reply

Deanna Nassar on Oct 08, 2016Shutters, doors, and roof usually go together on color differ from main body of house. If you don't have the shutters then the door can go any color you like. I've been in this apartment 6 years and the doors have been dark red, green, and now dark grey that is almost black. What is your favorite color? Get a gallon and go for it. Exterior latex is best.Helpful Reply

Barbara Rigot on Nov 02, 2016FYI -- I also live in Pittsburgh. I watch a lot of HGTV, and they paint their front doors a bright color such as brick red. This is said to be inviting and brightens up the drabness of most of our brick houses. Sure brightens up my beige house with brown roof.Helpful Reply
